Why is Lync often "tickling" its status bar icon?

I'm using Lync 2013.  I didn't see a forum choice for 2013. I'm also using Windows 7.

I like to "auto-hide" my status bar, so I get a clear indication when a window in the background has updated.

I installed Lync 2013 a few days ago, and I've noticed that the Lync icon on my status bar is updating quite often, like every minute or so, but when I go to look at the window, I don't see anything that's changed.  I'm not even using it, just logged in and showing my current status.

Why does it think the window is constantly updating?

It's under Lync Server 2013. It's a little confusing as 2010 is just under Lync 2010.

Or are you referring to no Lync 2013 Client forum, in which case, yes - there isn't, not sure why.

When you say it's "tickling" do you mean it's flashing when you don't have any IM's or act

I guess there are four states of an icon:

* Unopened: application not running

* Opened, no changes since last view

* Open, changes since last view

* Open, flashing, changes since last view

My current IM app icon will flash when a new message appears.  Other icons simply highlight, but aren't flashing.  Either of these states causes the status bar to unhide.

The Lync icon isn't flashing, but it does highlight, which brings up the status bar.  If I then visit the Lync window, the highlight goes away, but it comes back in a couple of minutes, consistently.

Hi,

Did you mean even no IM to you, Lync client will be highlight in a couple of minutes?

If it is the case, please make sure Lync client update to the latest version and then test again.

Please also check try to delete Lync user profile on the following path and then test again:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync

Yes, I mean no IMs, no visible actions or behavior at all. I'm one of the first people onboarded to Lync in my org, so for a while the window is just going to sit there and do nothing.  If it's going to sit there and do nothing, then it shouldn't be telling me that it's updating.

Curiously, I'm seeing this symptom today, but I didn't see it happen a single time yesterday.

When I look for the version of Lync, I see "Lync 2013 (15.0.4659.1001) MSO (15.0.4659.1001) 32-bit".  I have no ability to update the version of the client.

I'm hesitant to delete the user profile. There are quite a few files in that tree.  What should be the expected impact of deleting the user profile?

Hi,

You can delete the Lync user profile to test the issue. Lync user profile stores things like Address Book downloads, contact photos cache etc. These information will be download from Lync Server again when you open Lync client next time.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to contact administrator to update Lync client to the latest version and test the issue.
